So polite, we’re busy still sayin’ please….
August 14, 2007
So I sat next to a charming lady today on the 7:30 train into the city. When I got to the station this morning, I decided to walk farther down on the waiting area, in hopes that I may have had a better chance at scoring a seat(the past couple days I have stood, which is cool, but today I needed some shut eye). So I totally scored-I see a seat complete with one of the little work tables(those are NEVER available, Jesus is obviously on my side today)! So, I say to a lovely gal about my mom’s age sitting there, “May I please sit here?” She responded with a smile and said, “Why of course, I usually just say excuse me and sit down! You are so polite!” What’s up? Did you guys hear that? She said I was POLITE. Sweet. Anyway, we have a nice little conversation, and after that, she goes back to her work, and I plug into my iPod. So I put it on shuffle, and I hear “Get What You Give” from the New Radicals(I know you guys remember that song). It was so fitting, and I wanted to jump up and start singing-isn’t it funny how a song can fill you with so much emotion? I mean, I was absolutely not ready to head into work today-tired, kind of cranky; but that single interaction turned my day around. Then, on top of that, I heard the song, and I wanted to jump up and start hugging on people. It’s amazing how that can happen! Like, y’know the commercial where the lady holds the pizza guy back from stepping into traffic, and in turn he does a good deed, and then the next person does a good deed, and so on and so on? I feel like the gal from this morning has passed the torch to me. I’m gonna give someone my seat today, or help them with their stroller, or ask them if they had a good day. I will, just watch me go.
I love those days. And this blog makes me remember my days on the 1 and the 9 train to work in NY. Bringing back the memories.
Two Things:
1. Postal Service = Best Music for Trains and Subways….EVER!
2. “Pay it Forward” with Kevin Spacey sucked. I like your version of life better.
That commercial always inspires me to try and do that little something extra. Thanks for the link to your blog..looking forward to reading more!
Pay It Forward did not suck.
Whoever thinks that Pay It Forward sucks is gay.
UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
um, agreed.
do you ever encounter some smelly people on the T?
