Got your Charlie card?
August 4, 2007
Well, here goes. See, up until now, I have been satisfied reading other people’s blogs. But since our recent relocation to the kick ass city of Boston(ok, so we moved to the burbs, but the city is very close….), I have had a challenge placed in my lap that I feel I need to document. Bets have been placed, over/unders have been figured….and the general concensus is…….that I will not last past September without a car. Ok, this is where I back up and do some ’splainin. I was lucky enough to have a car provided through my husband’s work, and man, it was great! But, due to my accident history(3 fender benders in 2 years, ouch….), the insurance company said no car for now, check back with us in 2 years.I am in no way bitter; I fully own up to the fact that these accidents, even though they were minor, were my fault. So, as we were ready to make the trek up to MA, my transportation was in question. But anyone I came in contact with that has ever lived in, vacationed in, flown over, or daydreamed about Boston said,”You can take the T, no problem.” Ok, cool. Guess what? It actually is. It’s fun, I’m not gonna lie. I’m sure the excitement will wear off, but for now, I’m having a great time grinning like a jack ass at fellow passengers who are nodding off in their Dunkin’ Donuts cups(more about that later). But certain family members(who will remain nameless, hee hee) think I am gonna crack, bitch and moan, and eventually demand transportation that seats 4 instead of 400. Granted, grocery trips will be planned days ahead of time, and small errands may balloon into time leeching torture. Oh and traveling with a 4 year old? Well, that’s a special little treat all its own. But guess what? It’s gonna be fun. I’m gonna learn stuff in the process. Oh, and p.s., walking 2 miles a day as part of this commute doesn’t hurt either(I will post my weight as testament to the process)! Everyday I will be exercising my body as well as my mind, and that’s a pretty decent benefit too, thank you very much. Don’t forget that I am doing my part for the environment, and saving money to boot. So come with me (in theory, of course, that is,unless you are town), and lets live life on the T.
Me likey! I admire your positive attitude–I don’t think I could deal with public transportation after traveling in the controlled environment of my car for the past 10 years. However, I hear the T is much cleaner and easier to navigate than NYC subways (my only experience with public transportation). Good luck and keep blogging!
Randi,
I LOVE IT. You are off to a great start. I can tell you this, if i would have had my blog up and running when I was livin’ in Manhattan….let us just say the stories would have been my best work. I wish you the best in bloggin and I am so adding you to my blogroll. Oh and one last thing….Welcome to the Blogoshpere! (that’s for Denise. She hates it.)
Allow me to tell you that I have never, not once, doubted your ability to do this (not that I’m in your family or anything, but I’m just saying).
I think you should heist a shopping cart when you pick up groceries. Then you can be “that crazy cart lady with the kid.” It’ll build character. Then, when Ellie grows up, she can write about life as the daughter of “that crazy cart lady with the kid.”
What a money maker.
